Saturday poetry pick

This week’s book is Wings Moist from the Other World, by Peggy Shumaker. Wide ranging, this book feels epic. Many of the poems are strongly rooted in place–and they put the reader there, whether it’s Alaska or Tucson or Hawai’i.

At the same time, Ms. Shumaker’s poems explore love and loving, death, hard family pasts, and many kinds of loss. After reading the collection, I feel like I’ve traveled the world and lived more than one lifetime.
