Day 9 poetry writing prompt

Using the previous text you found for the day one prompt–or a new one–create a poem by crossing out the words you don’t want to include.

The tricky part: Keep it in the persona’s voice.

I haven’t played with erasure poems before, but I’m looking forward to it.

And speaking of tricky, I had a heck of a time with research for yesterday’s prompt. I wanted a picture from the 1865 inaugural festivities–forgetting that those were not the days of point-and-shoot. I found the same image posted as Mary in the inaugural gown and as a photograph from a session three or four years earlier. So maybe she wore that dress (instead of a new one), which had been photographed earlier?

  1. This was fun and hard at the same time. It’s addicting, but I need to do a lot more of it to get the feel of it and come up with something good. Today, I worked with two different texts. These erasure lines come from a letter Mary Lincoln wrote to Abe.

    myself called on
    since one of my severe
    what done will
launch me away in the land
